A roommate had an extra carburetor in the closet of your dorm room. Your brother’s girlfriend had to pushstart hers for months until it burned up. Remember the drive over the Rockies wrapped in blankets because the heater never worked? How about that rusty Karman Ghia you and two other guys drove across the country? If you’re the child of a baby-boomer do you get the impression your parents aren’t telling you all the stories about the van they had before they were married? It used to be practical to buy a van in Paris, drive it around for a few months and sell it at the end of your European adventure.
